Lori McConnell is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Washington, #LH00008238.  Being licensed ensures potential clients that she has had the required experience serving clients directly as a counselor and has shown competence on a counseling  examination.  She is also a Nationally Certified Counselor, #68857.  In order to maintain licensure and certification, Lori is involved in continual education which constantly enhances her knowledge on the treatment of various issues.  She is also a Registered Counselor, #RC00041111

Lori has her Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Western Washington University.  While obtaining her graduate degree, Lori specialized in counseling children, adolescents and families through her internship at Highline West Seattle Mental Health Center.   Lori has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Portland.  Lori was able to gain specialization in children's mental health at her practicum at a Child/Adolescent In-patient Treatment Program at a hospital. 

During Lori's undergraduate and graduate programs, she worked as a therapist for children with Autism.  Lori's experiences with the autistic children included designing and implementing behavior modification programs, advocating with school systems, and providing support for parents.  

Prior to attending graduate school, Lori was a case manager for foster children.  She was able to gain expertise in identifying ways to capitalize on the strengths of children in very difficult life situations.  Lori was able to learn strong advocating skills and a talent for identifying ways in which families needed to improve functioning to allow children to be successful. 

Since obtaining her MS in Mental Health Counseling, Lori has been working in community mental health, providing counseling to children, adolescents, and their families.  Lori has worked with youth and families on a range of challenging emotional and behavioral issues.  Lori has enjoyed the opportunity of setting up a counseling practice in West Seattle.  She enjoys giving to her community and ensuring that there is a place for West Seattle's kids and families to go for support.  Lori has given parenting workshops so parents can learn techniques to deal effectively with their children's difficult behaviors.  Lori enjoys working with adolescents and helping them in the formation of their identity while helping their families cope with the changes during this time of life.
